VR FUTURE EXPERIENCE

Technology and AR use-case demo

Project brief

Showcase new in-vehicle HMI concepts without complex vehicle customization and software development, and without risking safety when testing the concept.

Solution – VR

We built a VR prototype of potential new vehicle interactions which enabled us to get stakeholder buy-in for a series of new use-cases.

2 separate projects brought together to define the UX and UI and to place it in VR within a fresh, appealing vehicle interior.

3d vehicle interior CAD

The 3d model was built in Rhino which gave us the ability to define the screen sizes, positions and overall vehicle UX including adjustable seat positions and cabin lighting strips.

Data exported to Unity for the final VR build.

Interior CMF rendering

The model was then rendered in Keyshot to test materials and decide the final interior trim.

We aimed for a reductionist Scandinavian approach to the CMF.

Once agreed, the material choice was exported to Unity.

Day and night modes

The UX called for 2 modes to showcase different HMIs.

The modes were “morning commute to work” and “relaxed evening drive”.

Each experience had a different environment, interior lighting and use-cases.

Usage of the VR asset

The demo was shown at our company demo day to the Executive team and company colleagues.

Many of the concepts in the demo have gone forward to the roadmap use-case catalog for model year 2025 and beyond.
